Tatry á la Salvador
Dalí:
Salvador Felip Jacint Dalí Domènech
(11.5.1904 - 23.1.1989) was a Catalonian surrealist painter, one of the most
famous artists of the 20th century with an unmistakable artistic
style. His paintings are based on dream and imagination. The everyday subjects
are enriched with unusual, often surprising forms.
The High Tatras' characteristic peak Kriváň
levitates in the central part of the painting. Carried subtly by a crutch it
reminds a mask or the face of a gnome who, according to legends, guards a
treasure hidden in the mountain. The feeling of lightness is enhanced by
endemic chamois on long legs, flying brown bear, which looks as if it
originated from the Tatra rare orchid – lady's-slipper orchid (Cypripedium
calceolus). The depth of this scene is dramatized by long shadows much loved by
Dalí when observing his native Spain.
