roman turcel has been creating art works using extensive scale of techniques and their combinations. roman turcel works professionally as a graphic artist and designer. roman turcel currently lives and works in Prague.
The art work of roman turcel is determined by a strong urge to try to make people think and ask questions. For his expressions, roman turcel uses a very unique arsenal of artistic methods.
There is a dominant topic in his work – a conflict of human instincts with civilization and morale. Therefore, paintings and cycles of roman turcel are also dominated by portraying various body parts, especially the hand, being the most refined bearer. At the same time, it serves as some kind of philosophical unfolding of the Michelangelo's topic of God's hand near-touching Adam – the rescuing as well as healing touch. Softness and glaziness of artistic presentation of human body, often acknowledging natural or coating base, protractiveness and certain tenderness of figures on canvas, resembles the work of El Greco.
When it comes to colours, white is the dominant colour of roman turcel's paintings. Mysterious fog with depth, space and a range of symbols and gestures. In recent years, roman turcel has been especially devoted to philosophically compact, non-commercial projects. For example, within the Uniting Hands project, names and contents of his work were assigned to well-known personalities of the world. Then roman turcel requested them to provide a hand-written message directly onto the paintings. Until now, the request has been answered by singer Sting, director Miloš Forman, singer Peter Dvorský as well as His Holiness Dalai Lama, the Tibetan and world leader. According to roman turcel, roman turcel, this set of paintings could be also entitled "Paintings with a Special Message" – they provide space for creation and free movement of ideas. The same applies to artistic and philosophical concept named Space for Decalogue. The concept was created by painting into stereoscopic pictures made by photographer Miroslav Kormoš from Prievidza.
As for the presentation of his works, roman turcel likes to use public spaces with the free movement of people. It is based on his sincere effort to spread the art, to confront it not only with a narrow circle of initiates.
roman turcel also proves this effort with exhibitions, which he realized in parks, streets and shopping centers.
